My schedule just before I left was (and it was like this for a few years)
Monday (my Friday) 12-4
Tuesday and Wednesday I had off thank goodness cause those days were so boring with nothing but checking for a cashier to do...
Thursday: 12-4 I think or 12-5
Friday: 4-9:15 (my only closing day that I would do)
Saturday: 12-4
Sunday: 11-4 or 10-6 (I did 10-6 once a month when it was both TPR (temp price reduction) and weekly ad)
The people I've worked with
Collie (Colleen) My best friends mom, and like a second mom. She got me the job at Rite Aid.
Dawn Arbuckle- Like another second mom. I felt like she didn't like me too much when i first started but i think that was just Dawn lol. We'd go grocery shopping together in later years. I got her her cat Luna the lunatic. lol
Dawn was married when we first met, and her husband, Leon passed away in around 2011 or so.
They had two kids together, Katie (their younger child, who came about 13 years after their son)
Chris. He's married to a woman named Sarah and they have three kids Gwen (who was 5 months old when i first met Dawn) Liam and Reed.
Tammy Sue- Tammy started about 6 months after I did. She was another one that was like a mom. She's treated my daughter like she was a grandchild. She got her little "Tammy bags'... a bag with goodies in it, every week for about a year or two. She's married to Danny Roth who is another awesome person. They have two kids together, Juliann and Nathan. Danny has two other daughters from a previous marriage (Molly and Mallory)
Selah Kinn- Selah started working at the store after i did as well. She was married to a man named Randy when she first started. He wasn't very nice to her. They had 3 kids together. Christopher, Cory and (I forget their daughter's name) They split up and he would bug her at work so it got to the point where she would have to hide from him and we would call a code over the intercom so she'd know he was in the store. She never had good men in her life. She dated a douche bag that worked at the hospital after she divorced her husband, Randy. They were together for about 5 years or so but then he cheated on her. We all knew he was when she told us he was moving pictures to his office and other stuff. She was heart broken after that. Then she got with a guy named Frosty (Frank) he was on drugs and got her on drugs. She would come to work with scabs all over and blame it on flea bites which i knew didn't make sense. She eventually ended up quiting. She hated this guy Curtis that we worked with, everyone hated him. Anyways she'd put her 2 weeks notice in and didn't show up after that. I think her boyfriend had a lot to do with why she left too. (update:April 2026- I work with Joe again at the Woodburn Liquor store, he's still with Jennifer, so I get Selah updates. Selah and Frosty "ran" to Florida. Apparently people were after Frosty. He died (suspiciously?) in his storage unit with his dog (I don't know if it was Specks, the dog they got a few years back) they only found his body because of the dog barking. Selah ended up in a nursing home (she's only in her 50s I think) she has a lot of health issues including diabetes, and had lost a few toes, and her teeth (possibly from drug use). In the nursing home she married another man in 2024?, who passed away a few months after that. in April 2026 Joe and Jennifer surprised Selah for her birthday. She is set to move into an assisted living facility soon with another man she met in the nursing home.
Jennifer Sims (Selah's sister, April Hester's mom) Jennifer was married when she first started working at the store. He husband was Tom. They had one kid together, but her three older kids were raised by Tom and they called him dad. Her kids were Tyler, April (who i worked with in the end) Ashlynn, and Kyle. Ashlynn has three kids and is married to the youngest kids dad. Tyler also has three kids and is also married.
Joe Owings (boss) Joe was married to a woman named Debbie when i first met him. They had one daughter together named Cassie. Joe had a few sons from his first marriage but i never figured out the number... i think four boys. One is named Joe Jr i think. He's a good guy. We had him twice as the manager at Rite Aid. He came about three months after i started working there, and he was there for about two years before being transfered to S. Salem. Then about 5 years later he was transfered back (In between that time we had Mike Peterson, who i hated and Janice.)
Stephen Bourgeois- Stephen was the assistant manager to Joe. He was ok. I was intimidated by him but at the same time i had a crush on him for a little bit. He had one daughter from a previous marriage. her name is Krista, but his long time girlfriend and him had a daughter (after he left the store) Her name is Chloe i think. They live in Eugene and i think his girlfriend worked at Fred Meyers. (2026 update: back in 2020 Stephen passed away from Covid. From what I remember, he was really sick, but started to get better, but then went down hill again and passed away. Brenda had a hard time after that. I think she lost her home, and Stephen's family didn't let her have anything. She was living in an RV I think? She ended up drinking a lot, at some point put then 13 year old Chloe up for adoption.
Brian Hutchens- Brian, was awesome. He was assistant manager to Janice (after Michael left) He was super nice and funny. He thought almost everyone was stealing and every so often you'd see him peeking from around an end cap watching someone, or in the office looking at the cameras.
He was married and had two kids, but i don't know or remember any of their names. But he was really family oriented.
Michael- Michael was assistant manager to Janice. He had step daughers and an ex wife i think. He bowled with Janice and the district manager Denny who was Janice's best friend.
Janice- Janice was the manager after Mike. I liked her but she was also really intimidating. She had a huge house. She's married and has 4 kids i think. I don't remember her kids's names but she was related to Christy some how and Cole is her nephew.
Mike- Mike Peterson came after Joe left the first time. I did not like him. He did no like me. He wanted me to work whenever he wanted me to work only because i would say i couldn't work certain times or days. For the first couple of years i did no work on the weekends. He forced me to work weekends.
Rande- Rande is Mike's wife but completely different to Mike. She is a short spunky sweet lady. She's funny. She's Jewish. They have two kids. Craig and i don't remember their daughter's name. (Rande and Mike moved to Idaho in around 2020 or so, not sure, to be closer to their kids)
Curtis Funke- Curtis came with Joe the second time he came back. He was the assistant manager. We liked him a little bit when he first started. He was learning things stiff. But then we really just didn't like him. He was super flakey. He loved his two boys though. But he finally left for good.
Lisa Walker- Lisa started a couple years before i did. She worked in the pharmacy so i didn't really work with her. She had a daughter while she worked there. Morgan, looks just like her mom!
Darcie Sorter- Darcie worked in the pharmacy. She is married to a guy named Lance and they had two kids together. Nikki, who was married to a guy named Russ and they had two daughters together,. Darcie and Lance's other child, a son named Jordan, died before i met her. He was special needs. I believe he had spinabifida.
Darcie Brosig- my best friend worked with me for a short time before she had Riah!! She worked mostly in the pharmacy. She wasn't there too long. Probably less than a year. She left right before Riah was born.
Terry Ricketts- Terry was a supervisor. Before i worked at the store i didnt really like her because any time i would check out she just seemed super annoyed. Which knowing now how much i dislike being a cashier she probably was lol. She was married to a guy named Brett. She had i think two kids and some grandkids, with a previous relationship. They did have three dogs, and i think two cats.
Terry had a lot of health issues, which she ended up having to leave for. She passed away in around 2015 or so.
Betty Younce- Betty worked in pharmacy. I didn't know her too well, i just know she reminded me of aunt Lorie. She was married to a guy named ... Ron. They had at least two kids together. But Ron passed away in 2016. She had to leave work to take care of him. I believe he had cancer. She was angry because she wasn't rehired.
After i left Rite Aid, i learned that Betty and Terry's husband Brett got together (after their spouses passed)
Kay- was our Wellness Ambassador. So she pretty much just walked around and helped people find things they needed and called people for some reason. She left in 2017 before i left to a job she liked better, but she ended up working in the pharmacy after i left (but in mid or late 2018) (2026 update: whenever I'd run into Kay at the store she would say hi to me. Then one time I saw her and I smiled and said hi and asked how she was doing. She looked at me like she had no idea who I was. I thought it was weird that she would forget, so I reminded her. She explained that she had had a stroke and didn't remember much anymore.
Judy- Judy was related to granny. She was married to Granny's brother Eddie. She had a lot of health issues when i met her. She called in a lot from what i remember. She left around 2010 or so i think. She worked on the floor mostly and probably covered breaks. She worked in the shoes before Collie took that over when she left. Judy passed away in about 2015 or 2016
Debbie Branson- Debbie wasn't a supervisor but when i first started there she acted like it. She could get us changed and she did approvals. But as Rite Aid became more and more corporate that ended. She was bossy and hated cashiering, so she didn't really do it. She was married to a guy named Rob. She had two kids from a previous marriage. Rob passed away in i think 2008 (right after Paris died)
Debbie left about two or three years before we moved to the new store. She injured her back at work and her doctor told her she shouldn't go back to work.
Savannah= Savannah started in about 2008 or so. She was 18 and just out of highschool. Super sweet girl. She married a guy named Lewis who she met at Rite Aid (he was a customer who had asked her out) She left in around 2009 i think. She has a son with Lewis but i'm unsure if htey are still together. She started working at Rite Aid again in 2018, after i was already gone.
Summer- Summer started in about 2008 I think when she was about 18 or 19. She had a 1 year old son named Robbie. She was married, but shortly after she was working there I know he was abusive and she ended up quiting and moving to I think texas with her son to get away. She did come back a while later and got her job back.
Ian - Ian was in his late 30s when he started working at the store. I told him after about a year or so, when him, Summer and I were talking that I thought he was like 23 years old or so. I did not know he was closer to being 40. When he started, his son was 4. When I left Rite Aid his son was I think close to graduating. I had a crush on him in around 2012ish. I think he left Rite Aid in around 2018 or so.
Nayeli (Montez)- I never actually worked a shift with her that I can remember. She was mostly a closer I think. So she always came as I was leaving. So she was my relief. She seemed pretty nice. She didn't work there too long. She was at the old store for a couple months, and she was at the new store too I remember. I do remember being told when she was fired. All because she 'accidentally' entered in a wrong birthday on a sting for alcohol. This rule was pretty new when she got fired. (When I first started working at Rite Aid and up until about 7 years after, we could use our judgment on whether someone was old enough or not to buy alcohol. Then it bcame a rite aid law that you had to ID EVERYONE. They had been saying they were going to put that policy in for along time but hadn't, and I actually didn't think they would.) Anyways, she entered the wrong date in to the wrong person and was fired, and this happened while she was working in the Salem store. She actually was also Lee's ex girlfriend. Nayeli would come in with him sometimes when she worked there, and then also after she was let go. Then he started coming in by himself and he was always super nice and smiled a lot.
Chris Hodson- Jenny's cousin. He started working at the same time as Ian. They were hired by Stephen I think. He started working there in either late 2007 or 2008.
Andre- Andre was the one who hired me. He was only there for about 3 months. Joe replaced him. Andre went to a Salem store.
Roger- Roger was the Pharmacist. I never worked with him and maybe said hi to him a few times in about 4 years that I worked with him. He quit after working there for several years and he went to Hi School Pharmacy. He was married when I knew him but I heard his wife was a jerk (to put it nicely lol) He isn't married to her anymore.
Mark- Mark was a pharmacy tech. He was in his 20s around my age I think. No kids, but he had a girlfriend who had an older daughter. I think they bred Chihuahuas there for a while.
Atit Thacker- He's from India. He replaced Roger I think. He's a younger guy, in his late 20s at the time probably 30s now. He had his first child while working here, and then his second. His first, a son, looks just like him. His second is a girl. I didn't really work with Atit but said hi and talked to him and other pharmacy people a bit. He did go back to India a for vacations. He lived in Beaverton and made the commute to Silverton! He came around 2009 or 2010.
April Jones- She came around 2016? She was a supervisor. She was nice but she also reminded me of one of those girl that would kick you ass if you pissed her off. Kind of like a white gangster girl. She has teen kids. I think shes about 2 years older than me. She's from Texas but was here living with a boyfriend. After I was gone (had Caius) she had to move back to Texas to get away from the boyfriend.
April Hester April is Jennifer Sim's youngest daughter/child. She started working at the old store? I remember when she was just 10 or 11 years old or so! She was a super sweet girl too!
Jim- He came as an assistant manager to Mike. He was nice but dumber than a rock. Apparently he had been an electrician and someone said he was electrocuted too many times. He did things really weird. If you opened a roll of coins I think he would tell you to not push all the coins out of the paper, when other supervisors told us to take the paper out. Other weird things too. He wasn't there more than two years I think. I think he must have been there in around 2009.
Christy Coker- Related to Janice and Cole (her son). She didn't really work at our store. She did however come there and help out by getting resets done and stuff. (2026 Update: Christy and her husband Oliver, who I remember selling beer and wine to: own liquor stores in Keizer and Woodburn. in 2023 I went to work for Joe at the woodburn liquor store)
Cole Ellis- Cole started after he graduated I think. He was 18 at the time. A real sweet kid. Funny. He liked to pick on customers. I bought our Wii from him. He dated Brook (my step cousin)
Alex- He was best friends with Cole. I think he replaced Cole. He looked Asian but he was actually half Hispanic but didn't look it. He was another sweet kid. Funny! He stopped a few would be thiefs. He worked at the old store. Not the new.
Max Parra- I don't remember really working with him. I do remember that he was super nice. I didn't remember what he looked like so connecting him as Lee's brother wasn't there lol. I was always glad when he worked because that meant I could be on the floor and he was cashier. He wasn't there very long.
Jeannie- She retired a few months after I started working there. I remember she told me that she had never seen the bathroom so clean before, after I started as the janitor.
Tara- Tara started working here in 2007 and didn't work there that long. She was a cashier when I was just the janitor person. She apparently showed up to her interview with Andre in ripped up jeans. She actually lived in my apartments. I think she may have moved in after me, but I don't remember. She did call me once (not knowing I lived in the same apartments) asking me if I was missing my cat (Junior) who would mooch food from anyone he could.
Nyssa- Super sweet, very soft spoken, hippy type girl. Her boyfriend was in a band. She was there when I started there. (Update 2026- Nyssa worked at Rite Aid again soon after I left, probably in 2018 or something. She was still super soft spoken, but I knew she'd been dealing with mental health issues from being friends with her on facebook. I think she may have also been anorexic, as she was very very thin.
Jeanie/ Gena/ Christy??- Blond girl who tried to date Andrew, and whose parents owned the antique shop next to the red bench, or maybe they owned red bench. She was always covered in make up and I remember one time she made a comment about how I must not be feeling well. I mentioned I wasn't wearing make up and she said, oh yeah I can tell you look pasty or something along those lines haha. She was always giving out her number. Party girl. She probably worked there in around 2011ish.
Tiffany Cobb- She worked here In 2013 to around 2015? She didn't work in the new store. She got in trouble a lot and was pretty argumentative with Rande and Collie.
There were a few other people whose names I can't remember.
One lady who worked at the new store for a few months. Very talkative and kind of spazy? (Chrissy?) She was middle aged, maybe in her 40s. She left I think because he dad was sick and then came back a couple months later to get her job back but wasn't rehired.
A Native girl, forget her name (she said she wasn't Hispanic) she worked at the new store for a few months before moving up to Safeway. She was married, and pretty young, probably about 22.
Krystal (pharmacy)
Rochelle (pharmacy)
Abby (pharmacy)
Dewy (repair guy that ate everything lol)
Lara: She was at the store when I started. She didn't like working at rite aid and just did it for the money. When she got back from her vacation in New Zealand she wanted to travel more (she got the bug!!) She left a few months after that. Tammy didn't like her cause she would call Tammy all the time like a stalker.
There was another girl, forget her name. She worked in the pharmacy. She was there a few months before she was arrested for stealing medications.
